Our Forever Home

If you read my last blog post, you know that Our Forever Home was in the very first neighborhood my parents drove us through on our son’s birthday trip. What’s funny is that this street had almost no houses on it when I was growing up. The only time I even drove down this street was when I was late for curfew and needed to get home fast. I won’t tell you how fast I would drive on it trying to make it home on time because it would truly horrify you. Thank you Jesus for keeping me safe all those nights!

When my parents drove us down this road in June of 2021 I couldn’t believe my eyes. This little back road I used to take as a shortcut was now a street of the most beautiful homes and brand new neighborhoods surrounded by big gorgeous trees that East Texas is known for. It just looked like the most beautiful country road that felt so familiar and comforting to me. If you read the latest blog you also know how quickly the move back to Texas happened. I could probably sum up our remodeling process in two words, but for the sake of a blog post, I will elaborate. At this point, we have moved back into our house, so I can discuss the process from start to finish. If you are reading this just because you are curious, or if you are actually considering a remodel, I hope all of this information will help. If you are seriously considering a remodel, I would suggest reading this book. It explains 15 steps for a successful remodel and how to survive it. The authors share a lot of good info!

Remodel On Big Timber Road – Life In A Tiny House

As I’m sitting here writing this blog post today, I’ve now been living in our ‘tiny house’ (aka the little house) for seven months and 20 days. Yep, I’m counting! When we moved into our home 24 years ago, our current tiny house was a workshop and a garage. Because of the scale of our remodel, everything had to be moved out of our house. The exceptions were the upstairs office and the garage. For some reason, the thought of packing up our belongings of 24 years never really bothered me. I planned to start at the back of the house and pack one room per day. Unphased by the task ahead of me, my plan for the Remodel On Big Timber Road was just to Pack It Up, and Move It Out.
