Every room in the house needed cosmetic updating, so we decided to take it one room at a time. The upstairs of his home consists of two bedrooms, with a game room in between and a bathroom. The two bedrooms are designated guests rooms for family and friends. My son wanted one of the bedrooms to be specifically for his Dad and me. His home is close to both of the Dallas airports and we often stay with him the night before an early morning flight….

The first year of my son’s life was by far the hardest year of MY life. I had quit my full time teaching job to become a stay at home mom. My husband had a medical issue that wasn’t diagnosed for several months and then required surgery. He also started a new job that year and we moved into our first “real” home. I am having major FOMO this week. More about that later. So, let me start from the beginning. About seven years ago, I took my first trip to Palm Springs. Jerry T (my husband) had a contract in El Centro, California. So, during one of his trips there, I decided to tag along. We thought it would be fun to stay in Palm Springs (well, actually I thought it would be fun). Palm Springs was a place that my native Californian mom would occasionally talk about. That, along with Palm Springs Weekend (a popular movie from the 60’s), the Rat Pack, the modern architecture, and Coachella made me want to visit this place. I had also heard of all the fabulous mid-century homes there and for that reason we (I again) decided to stay in a vacation rental home. …
About a year and a half ago, my son Jonathan began searching for a home to buy in the Dallas area. Being close to the airports and his jiu-jitsu school were his top priorities. Jerry T and I were excited to help him. He actually wanted our input. The Dallas real estate market was and still is booming. Houses go quickly and usually over the asking price. We made the trip to Dallas several weekends during his search. We looked at every house that he looked at, except one, the one he ended up buying.
