I Iove fall, especially Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the one time each year that my entire family sits down together at my Grandmother’s dining table for a meal. And because this only happens once a year, I try to make the table dramatic and memorable. Last year’s table was white and blush. In fact, last year, I styled four different tables that you can read about here. The blush table was one of my all time favorites; very feminine and outside the box for Thanksgiving. This year, I did a 360, having a mostly black color scheme. I love the look of a “non-traditional” Thanksgiving table so I decided to go with a Fall Goes Fornasetti theme.
Some of you are probably wondering what or who is Fornesetti? Piero Fornasetti was an Italian artist who saw a picture of a woman named Lina Cavalieri in a magazine. He was so infatuated with her, he created over 500 different versions of her face. Can you even imagine having someone that obsessed with your face? Today, you will see the faces on mainly furniture, plates, tables and other home decor. Ok, that’s it for the art history lesson!!
Abby and I are obsessed with all things Fornesetti (maybe it’s our Italian heritage?). There’s just something so captivating about those faces! We both have Fornesetti candles, and I used some Fornesetti replica pillows in a room makeover that you can see in this previous post.
I started searching for plates for the table (replicas of course- the real ones are WAAAY out of my budget ) and lo and behold, found them on eBay. There are tons to choose from and they are very reasonably priced. I knew I wanted to use these plates for the adult and the kids tables. Something LOVELY for the adults and something FUN for the kids. It was so much fun decorating these tables! I mean, who doesn’t love a beautiful (Italian) face???
The Adult Table
I love this pattern and chose it because of the subtle shades of pink, green and orange in the flowers around her face. The black plates underneath are from Hearth and Hand from Target. Great plates with a irregular raised border which makes them a little more interesting than a flat plate.
These place cards are from a shop called Something Blush from Etsy. Unfortunately, this shop is currently on a break and I’m unable to link them. They are actually made to fold around a napkin but because I was short on space I placed them in these holders that I purchased a few years back.
As mentioned above, I was short on space with eight place settings at this table so I folded the napkin in the shape of a rose. For instructions on how to do this click here.
The Kids Table
Same face, different expressions. Definitely something fun for the kids! I found the fabric for the tablecloth at Hobby Lobby and the plates under the face plates from (believe it or not) a True Value store in Palm Springs. Just add some spooky trinkets to this table setting and it could also work for Halloween.
Speaking of Palm Springs, I bought this appetizer tray at a home decor shop while visiting there last month. Filled it flowers, some few yummy treats and miniature velvet pumpkins.
Instead of place cards, I had stir sticks made with each of the grandkids names. Also, another Etsy find that you can check out here.
