Our Beauty Favorites

All the women in my family love their beauty products. We’ve picked a few of our favorites to share with everyone. We’ve got every age category covered from a Baby Boomer to an Gen Z. My two daughters, my granddaughter and I have each written our own reviews of our favorite products. If you decide to try them out, you can click on the pictures or the highlighted text.

Sandy’s Picks

Being the OG of the group, I’ve probably used more beauty products than my two daughters and granddaughter combined. I love all things makeup and hair. Many years ago, I did promotional work for Estee Lauder and would receive a lot of free products. That job was definitely a lot of fun and my makeup drawer was overflowing. Below are the top three products that I can’t live without, and BTW none of them are from Estee Lauder 😉.

I have basically tried every facial sunscreen out there and this Obagi Sun Shield is the BEST, hands down. If feels more like a makeup base to me, but its very light with a slightly dewy finish. It won’t sting your eyes, and it doesn’t have an odd smell like a lot of facial sunscreens have. It has an SPF of 50 and the tube is fairly large. My last tube lasted a few months. You can get two different tints, warm and cool (I wear the warm).

 

 

I absolutely love this cream blush that can also double as a lipstick. It comes in several different colors, but the one I wear is called Bare Rose. It has a creamy texture thats so easy to apply. It is also preservative and fragrance free.

 

I discovered this Diva Darling hair towel a couple of years ago and I love it so much I even take it with me when I travel. If you want to cut down on your hair drying time, you’ve got to use this towel. It much more absorbent than a regular towel and a lot easier on your hair. The price is right too!

I occasionally get asked if I’m wearing fake eyelashes and I know it’s because of my mascara. If a “professional mascara extraordinaire” existed I would be your girl. I will tell you that I’ve been obsessed with mascara since high school and I’ve tried them all. Trust me on this one ladies…Mac’s Extreme Dimension 3D Black mascara needs to be in your life STAT. I’ve pinned so many contouring guides on Pinterest it’s not even funny. I’ve tried every stick, gel, tube, brush there is and there is no better contouring stick than Smashbox Studio Skin Face Shaping Foundation Stick. I use it as concealer, as well. It stays on all day and I feel like it’s almost impossible to find makeup that does that. A friend recommended it and it’s the only thing I’ve used since!

 

Ok y’all, we all saw the episode on Housewives when Kelly tells Shannon she has hair on her chin. Hashtag awkward. This prompted an immediate phone call to my best friend about the subject nobody likes to talk about, girl facial hair…dun dun dunnn. She told me about a product she uses called Shiseido Facial Razors and sent me a package of three. These do the trick and for less than $5 on Amazon you never have to be a Shannon. One package of 3 has lasted me 6 months so far!

Dermatologists, friends, and skin experts will all tell you how important is it to moisturize your skin. But what happens if every moisturizer you’ve ever tried breaks your skin out? Then you’re just like me and you don’t moisturize. Or at least I didn’t for years until I asked my friend who has amazing skin what she uses for moisturizing and her answer was organic argon oil. Reluctantly, I gave it a try and it actually worked! Finally a moisturizer that won’t break out your skin! It’s inexpensive too!

Believe it or not, my husband actually got me started on this beauty product recommendation. He used a face wash called Murad, one I had never seen or heard of before. Must be a California thing, I thought. Then I started noticing how he would wash his face. He would rub it on and let it sit for a few minutes before he washed it off. I finally asked him why he washed his face like that and he said it has a tingling effect and he likes the way it feels. I had to try it. So, I borrowed his and immediately I was hooked. I have used it ever since. It does tingle and I love the way it feels. Thanks Brendan!

 

I am all about oils. I diffuse them, I rub them on my skin, I even ingest them and I swear, they work. When I jumped on the oil bandwagon, I never thought that one of my oils would also turn into my daily perfume. I used to be the queen of perfume. I LOVED wearing it and believe me I wore A LOT! But when I was pregnant, I couldn’t stomach it and after I had Baylor, I never went back to wearing it. It made me feel sick to my stomach and gave me a headache. I began using Serenity by doTERRA to help calm my anxiety and when I did, I noticed people began complementing me on how good I smelled. My response was always, really? I do? I finally realized it’s the oil and people seem to love the scent. I literally wear this oil daily!

 

Lani’s Picks

A product I use daily and couldn’t live without is a wet brush! I seriously can’t remember how I functioned without this brush. I am a victim of the dreadful bed head and crazy tangles so this is brush is my absolute best friend! It gets out the tangles without damaging and pulling your hair. It works on wet or dry hair. I seriously think I have four of these sitting in my bathroom right now!! You can never have too many wet brushes! Click on the picture above to purchase.

 

Any college kids balling on a budget like I am? If you are, I have the best product for you!! A Spatty Tool is a brush that lets you scrape out the last little bit of makeup that you have left in your bottle! You get to use literally every drop until the end and I am all about that!!! Not to mention, the product is so inexpensive. I mean who wants to buy makeup more often than you have too? Not me!! Y’all may laugh, but I have even used these brushes while cooking to get the last remaining condiments out of a jar!

 

Another product I just couldn’t simply go without is NYX lipstick! I can honestly say I’ve tried every lipstick in the world and this one is my absolute favorite!! I swear a good lipstick that stays on all night can take someone from second guessing their look to taking selfies all night!! If you don’t have this, you are missing out!! Red matte is my go to color, but I have several other colors that I LOVE!!
